About the Role
Reporting to the Overhead Line Design Lead or Lead Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and delivering engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed design for Transmission network projects (132kV and above). Your role includes providing design calculations, reports, drawings, and defining, developing, and maintaining standards for Overhead Line (OHL) installation works. You will provide effective technical support, advice, and input throughout the project lifecycle within Scottish Power Transmission Projects.

You will lead the development of pre-contract design and project delivery by advancing the technical aspects of OHL systems and associated equipment. Promoting Health, Safety, Quality, Environmental compliance, and continuous improvement is a key part of your responsibilities. You will assess engineering documentation, feasibility, and compliance to meet client requirements and support budget preparation for new projects. Additionally, you will recommend construction and outage programmes related to OHL circuits.

Your duties include preparing detailed engineering specifications and cost estimates for high-value, complex, or business-critical projects, resolving statutory, land, or other consents for OHL routes, and providing technical assessments of tender submissions. You will define OHL equipment requirements for System Construction Authorisation (SCA), Project Technical Specifications, and BETTA documentation, as well as prepare and review OHL drawings and technical specifications for Construction, Procurement, and other stakeholders.

You will control correspondence and drawings issued to Project Delivery and Pre-Contract teams, ensuring all specifications, designs, equipment, and construction practices comply with legislation, policies, and operational requirements. Leading the technical resolution of site and construction OHL-related issues is also a key aspect of this role.

Experience
Proven experience in Overhead Line (OHL) design software and delivering engineering solutions for high-value, complex transmission OHL projects. Experience in preparing technical reports and documents and influencing senior managers is essential.

You will have excellent communication skills with the ability to write clear and concise technical reports. Flexibility in working hours and willingness to undertake short trips away from home as required. A proactive approach to Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental compliance is expected.

Qualifications
Educated to Engineering degree level or HND/HNC with equivalent experience.
