About the Role
At ScottishPower, part of the Iberdrola Group, we are seeking an Application Consultant to join our Centre of Excellence, Architecture and Technology team. This role requires a motivated self-starter with strong technical skills and functional experience, able to work under limited supervision and bring fresh ideas from the utilities sector and beyond. As the technical owner of a suite of applications, you will manage delivery roadmaps, coordinate functional and technical upgrades across multiple technologies and third-party vendors, oversee maintenance activities, and deliver projects. You will demonstrate leadership, versatility, and enthusiasm for solving challenging problems.

As a subject matter expert, you will drive the delivery of solutions to meet the fast-moving needs of the business, using your technical expertise to troubleshoot and analyze systems. Providing excellent customer service is key, so you will focus on improving system stability, identifying and resolving performance issues to ensure a great customer experience. Security is paramount, and you will be responsible for maintaining system security through rigorous vulnerability management.

Key responsibilities include leading application solution delivery from planning through deployment, providing expert advice to the wider Customer Business COE team, performing system maintenance and problem analysis, managing third-party vendors to ensure quality and timely delivery, operational monitoring to maintain security and efficiency, coordinating releases and upgrades, vulnerability management, collaborating across teams, prioritizing solutions based on business benefit, communicating complex solutions to stakeholders including senior management, and coaching or leading internal and external team members as required.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience leading project delivery and managing third-party vendors
- Proven experience in application solution design and delivering IT solutions
- Previous technical role experience such as developer or technical analyst
- Ability to capture and translate complex business requirements into system requirements
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to lead internal and external resources

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience (minimum)
- Master’s degree in a relevant technical field is desirable
- Ability to architect and design end-to-end solutions involving multiple technologies
- Experience with SCRUM/Agile methodologies
- Knowledge of the UK Energy Retail Market, preferably from the utilities sector
- Knowledge of Cloud Architectures, SMART metering technologies, Oracle database technologies, AWS technologies
- Experience with SQL, Java, XML, and API technologies
