About the Role
We are currently looking to recruit a Jointer to construct, maintain and repair the electrical distribution network. This important role supports the readiness of the network for an electric future and helps meet the challenge of Net Zero across more than 100,000km of network and 30,000 substations, benefiting over 3.5 million homes and businesses across Scotland, England, and Wales. All training, tools, and PPE will be provided while working towards Company Authorisation. Once authorised, the role includes a paid standby rota, typically on a 1:6 rotation, though this may vary.
Day to day, you will ensure all site works are carried out safely, in accordance with company policy and safety rules, and efficiently. You may act as the nominated person in charge of safety during works. Your duties will include cablehead changes, cablehead and substation fuse replacement, fault location, generator deployment/connection, jointing work, and issuing/receipting appropriate safety documents, all as appropriately authorised. Occasionally, you will assist other trade groups within the company.
You will plan and carry out work safely, adhering to health and safety procedures, and work proactively either independently or as part of a team with a confident and enthusiastic attitude. Attention to detail and strong oral and written communication skills are essential to deliver outstanding customer service and maintain essential services 24/7/365 that make a difference to local people and communities.
Experience
Demonstrable experience and understanding of jointing, testing, and fault finding. Experience working within a utilities business is preferable but not essential.
About you
Sound knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation. Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with colleagues and customers as an on-site representative of the company. Ability to work safely and efficiently both independently and as part of a team with a confident and enthusiastic attitude.
Qualifications
City and Guilds or NVQ equivalent, and/or equivalent experience (minimum).
Minimum criteria include current or historical employment as an electrical cable jointer at one or more of LV, HV, EHV levels.
Driving licence (minimum) required.
