About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Jointer to construct, maintain, and repair the electrical distribution network. This vital role supports the readiness of the network for an electric future and contributes to meeting Net Zero targets across more than 100,000km of network and 30,000 substations, benefiting over 3.5 million homes and businesses across Scotland, England, and Wales. All training, tools, and PPE will be provided while working towards Company Authorisation. Once authorised, the role includes participation in a paid standby rota, typically on a 1:6 rotation.
Day to day, you will ensure all site works are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies and safety rules. You may act as the nominated person in charge of safety during works. Your duties will include cablehead changes, cablehead and substation fuse replacement, fault location, generator deployment and connection, jointing work, and issuing and receipting appropriate safety documents as authorised. You will occasionally assist other trade groups within the company.
You will plan and execute work safely, adhering strictly to health and safety procedures. The role requires the ability to work proactively both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a confident and enthusiastic attitude. Attention to detail, strong oral and written communication skills, and delivering outstanding customer service are essential to support 24/7/365 essential services that positively impact local communities.
Experience
Demonstrable experience and understanding of jointing, testing, and fault finding. Experience within a utilities business is preferable but not essential.
About you
Sound knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation. Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with colleagues and customers as an on-site representative of the company. Ability to work safely and proactively both independently and as part of a team with a confident and enthusiastic attitude.
Qualifications
City and Guilds or NVQ equivalent, and/or equivalent experience (minimum). Minimum criteria include current or historical employment as an electrical cable jointer at one or more of LV, HV, or EHV levels. A valid driving licence is required.
